Where you can use fancy fonts on X
Fancy text works almost anywhere you can type on X, with one important exception.
-
Tweets and replies
Style a headline, a key word, or a call to action so it stands out in the feed. A little goes a long way.
-
Your display name
The bold name above your @username can use any style. Just keep it readable and under the 50-character limit.
-
Your bio
Use a fancy font for a tagline or to label sections of your bio. Need the words first? Try our Twitter (X) Bio Generator.
-
Not your @username
Handles only allow regular letters, numbers, and underscores, so fancy fonts won’t work there.
How to use Twitter fonts without hurting your reach
Fancy fonts grab attention, but they come with a few trade-offs. Keep these in mind.
They count double
Most fancy letters count as 2 characters on X. Check styled tweets with our character counter.
Search can’t read them
X search usually won’t match styled words. Keep your key terms and hashtags in plain text.
Screen readers struggle
Some styles are read out letter by letter, or not at all. Style a word or two, not whole tweets.
Preview on mobile
A few styles show as boxes on older devices. Bold, italic, and cursive are the safest picks.
Emphasize, don’t decorate
One styled word draws the eye. A whole styled paragraph is hard to read and easy to scroll past.
Stay on brand
Pick one or two styles and use them consistently, so your posts and profile feel like one account.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Twitter (X) Font Generator free?
Yes. The Twitter (X) Font Generator is 100% free, needs no login or sign-up, and has no limits. Convert as much text as you like.
How do I change my font on Twitter?
X doesn’t have a font setting, so there’s no way to switch fonts inside the app. Instead, this Twitter font generator turns your letters into special Unicode characters that look like different fonts. Copy the style you like, paste it into your tweet, bio, or display name, and it shows up that way for everyone.
What font does Twitter use?
Twitter (X) uses its own typeface, called Chirp, for posts and the app itself. It was introduced in 2021. You can’t change it, but the fancy fonts from this generator display on top of it because they’re separate characters, not a font setting.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Twitter name and bio?
Yes, in your display name and bio. Your @username is different: it can only use regular letters, numbers, and underscores, so fancy fonts won’t work there. Remember your display name has a 50-character limit and your bio has 160.
Do fancy fonts count as more characters on X?
Usually, yes. Most fancy font letters count as 2 characters on X, so a word in the Bold style uses about twice as many characters as the same word in plain text. Paste your styled text into our Twitter (X) Character Counter to check it still fits.
How do I make bold or italic text on Twitter?
X doesn’t have a bold or italic button, but you can copy the Bold or Italic style from this generator. If you only want to style a word or two in the middle of a tweet, our X Text Formatter makes that quicker.
Why do some fonts show up as boxes or question marks?
Some styles use characters that older phones, computers, or apps don’t support yet, so they show as empty boxes. Bold, italic, and cursive work almost everywhere. If you’re not sure, paste your text into a draft post and preview it on your phone first.
Are fancy fonts accessible and searchable?
Not always. Screen readers may read fancy text letter by letter or skip it, and X search usually won’t match styled words. Use fancy fonts for a word or two of emphasis, and keep your key message, hashtags, and anything people search for in plain text.
Your tweet looks great. Now keep them coming.
